This is my favorite sword, "Crimson Mist." An oni's joy... It severs flesh and bone without harming hair.

Episode 3

Benigasumi (紅霞, べにがすみ, Crimson Mist, "Reg Fog") was Yura's wakizashi which she used for close ranged combat. She said it was a treasure among the oni because it had the ability to cut through flesh and bone, but not her specialized hair. She used it to decapitate her victims, but otherwise controlled it with unseen strands of hair. It is also not able to cut through Inuyasha's robe of the Fire-Rat.

HistoryEdit

Yura was first seen using her sword against Kagome at the Bone-Eater's Well. She stole her shard of the Shikon no Tama and was prepared to kill her with her sword, but Kagome disappeared as she fell down the well.

Kagome and Inuyasha confronted Yura to get back their shard. She managed to restrain Inuyasha with her hair nest. Inuyasha tried to attack Yura, but she hit his chest with her sword. She then licked his blood off the sword. She was about to attack again, but she got distracted by Kagome's arrow that landed on her hair nest. She attacked Kagome with her flaming hair and turned her attention back to Inuyasha. She was about attack him with her sword, but he sliced off her hand with his Hijin Kessō. She used her hair to move her hand while it still held the sword. She stabbed him from behind after she blocked another of his Hijin Kessō attacks. She took back her sword with her unsevered hand. She restrained Inuyasha with her hair in order to cut off his head with her sword, but he punctured her chest.

She discovered that Kagome survived her flaming hairs. Inuyasha grabbed her sword and sliced her in the back while she was distracted. She restrained Inuyasha and pursued Kagome. She attacked with her sword, but it was deflected due to the robe of the Fire-Rat. Yura trapped Kagome and was prepared to cut of her head with one of her hairs, but she was saved by Inuyasha. He was then stabbed in the chest by Yura's sword. She was about to strike him again when Kagome attempted to pierce one of the skulls from Yura's nest with her arrow. Yura tried to stop Kagome her by killing her with her sword, but Kagome managed to kill her by destroying the comb that was hidden within the skull. As Yura's body disintegrated, her sword fell down atop a pile of skulls from Yura's nest.

Manga vs. AnimeEdit

  • In the manga, Yura mentions once about her wakizashi's name and its abilities after Inuyasha compliments how good it is. In the anime, she does not explain a thing about her special wakizashi and acts as an ordinary sword.
  • In the manga, Yura restrains Inuyasha's hand with her sword by stabbing through it after he punctures her chest. In the anime, she restrains it with her foot.
