This yōkai was the leader of the birds of Paradise that was in possession of a Sacred Jewel shard. It was actually two brothers that shared the same bird body.

History[]

The wolf yōkai Kōga abducted Kagome in order to use her power of sensing the shards of the Shikon no Tama. His tribe had been at war with with the Birds of Paradise. He intended to use her to find and steal a jewel shard from their leader. As the wolf yōkai were battling with the Birds of Paradise, Kagome guided Kōga to a mountain top where she sensed the presence of a jewel shard. The leader of the birds suddenly appeared through they mountain as they were climbing up. The leader intended to take Kōga's shards. Kōga brought her back down to keep her safe. He proceeded to fight the leader on his own to steal their shard. His arm was caught by its bird mouth. He broke free, but they managed to steal the shard that was inside his arm. As it proceeded to attack Kōga again, Inuyasha stepped in to destroy it with the Kaze no Kizu. Kagome collected the two jewel shards that were by its remains.

Manga vs. Anime[]

  • In the manga, Kōga is able to kill the brother on the left by cutting his head off with his claws after they were distracted when Inuyasha was pursuing Kōga. In the anime, both are killed by Inuyasha's Kaze no Kizu.
