The Hybrid Movie is a DVD extra found only on the 2005 Region 2 Japanese and German release of the fourth movie, Fire on the Mystic Island. It consists of an animated slideshow of manga panels accompanied by music, sound-effects, and voice-overs by Kagome (Satsuki Yukino) and Inuyasha (Kappei Yamaguchi). As the original run of the anime had recently ended prematurely, the purpose of the Hybrid Movie was to inform anime viewers of plot developments currently taking place in the manga beyond the end of the original anime series. The Hybrid Movie covered up to chapter 404, which was the most currently-available chapter at the time of its release. As The Final Act had not yet been planned at the time, it served more as an 8-minute advertisement for the manga to encourage anime viewers to continue the story in a new format.
