Kyōkotsu (凶骨, "dark/bad luck/evil skill") was the first of the Shichinintai to appear in both the anime and manga, and thus, the first sign of the revival of the Shichinintai. He was presumably the weakest of the seven, despite his abnormal size. He had an appetite for human and yōkai flesh.

HistoryEdit

In his short appearance at the beginning of the Mount Hakurei arc, Kyōkotsu had been devouring the wolf demons in the area. After being told of his destruction, Kōga sought him out, and the two fought. Quickly, the fight escalated into a clash where Kōga got the upper hand by twisting his neck. Kyōkotsu quickly grabbed Kōga after he was distracted by Ayame. Kōga punched through his forehead after the latter attempted to devour him and ripped out his Jewel shard, killing him. His Jewel shard was taken by the Saimyōshō to be given to Bankotsu. Shortly before his death, Kyōkotsu also had a short meeting with Kohaku; Kyōkotsu attempted to take Kohaku's Jewel shard, but to no avail. He decided to leave him alone after learning Kohaku was under Naraku's protection.

Physical descriptionEdit

Kyokotsu Fullbody

Kyokotsu full body.

Kyōkotsu had spiky dark green hair and bloodshot, beady eyes. He had teeth that were rather sharp, jagged, and near demonic in appearance. Perhaps his most obvious physical characteristic was his abnormally large body; his body was such a size most likely because he had devoured many yōkai.

OutfitEdit

Kyōkotsu wore a red skirt with a white trim on the bottom edge. He had a yellow sash tied like a belt around his waist. He wore blue chest pads as a form of armor, and two black pads on his shoulders. He also tied a black headband around his head to hold back his short green hair.

Powers & AbilitiesEdit

Kyokotsu's Flail

Kyokotsu wielding his giant flail.

Due to his large size, Kyōkotsu possessed a great amount of strength and endurance, even being able to create a deep crater when he punched the ground. He was also skilled with a flail which had been made to suit his large body. He was also able to survive having his body contorted in ways that would normally be lethal, possibly due to his Jewel shard.

QuotesEdit

"I still smell? It's been some time since I emerged from my grave. I'll have to eat more, and put on muscles! You, over there, you'll become one with the great Kyōkotsu!"
―Kyōkotsu[src]
"What do you mean 'what am I'? I am human, isn't it obvious?"
―Kyōkotsu[src]
"So much for your assumptions. Now I'll devour you!"
―Kyōkotsu[src]
«So, Kyōkotsu's dead, is he? Serves him right, the stupid fool. Well, I suppose Kyōkotsu was the weakest one of us all.»
Jakotsu[src]

TriviaEdit

  • Unlike the other members of the Shichinintai, Kyōkotsu's jewel shard was located in his forehead.
  • Another theory for why Kyōkotsu's shard was located in his forehead was the flexibility of his neck, as displayed when Kōga twirled Kyōkotsu's head around and failed to remove it. The placement in his forehead could have been a preventive measure from having it crushed.
  • His tattoos meant Power, referring to his great size and strength.
  • Kyōkotsu, along with Mukotsu, were the only two members of the Shichinintai who did not get their own individual theme music in the InuYasha Official Soundtrack. This was most likely due to the fact that they were both killed quickly after being introduced.
  • Although he was called the weakest of the Seven by Jakotsu compared to Mukotsu, when each faced a full blooded demon, Kyōkotsu was easily stronger, as he fought Kōga well and killed numerous demons prior, where as Mukotsu was easily killed by Sesshōmaru. However, Jakotsu may have based this assessment on their power before their resurrection. The strength of their opponents should also be taken into account; Sesshomaru is many times more powerful than Kōga.
