Yōmeiju (溶命樹（ようめいじゅ）, "Melting Life Tree") was a carnivorous tree yōkai that used vines capable of dissolving barriers to prey on other yōkai. It was put under seal by a hōshi (Manga only); by a miko (Anime only), but was later revived by Naraku using a shard of the Shikon Jewel. Naraku absorbed the tree so that he could use its vines to reabsorb the Infant.

Manga vs. Anime

• In the manga, it was mentioned that Yōmeiju was sealed by a hōshi 100 years ago. But in the anime, the person who participated in the sealing process is changed to a priestess, 50 years ago.

Trivia

• Yōmeiju may be based on the mythical tree Jubokko. It is a tree that grows where a battle is taking place in order to devour their blood when they have died. It also traps humans by turning its branches into tubes that suck out their blood.
